Malaka Hotel, hotel in Lengkong, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia
Malaka Hotel is a hotel in central Bandung, Indonesia, with a modern interior built around clean lines and tidy spaces. It offers guest rooms, an on-site cafe, and a simple breakfast served within the building.
The site was home to the Valkenet Bakery, founded in the 1920s by J. A. Valkenet, which grew into the largest bakery in Bandung at the time. The building later became an administrative office, then sat empty for years before being demolished in the 2010s to make way for the current structure.
The name Malaka refers to the old Dutch-era bakery that once operated on this site and supplied bread to other known establishments in the city. Visitors who look up at the roofline can still spot architectural details that echo the original building style.
The hotel is centrally located in Bandung, with Braga Street and Asia Afrika Street reachable on foot in just a few minutes. Its position along a main road makes arrival by car or taxi easy from most parts of the city.
Although the original bakery building no longer stands, the hotel's roof was designed to echo the shape of the old industrial structure that once occupied the site. This means that a brand-new building carries a visual memory of a place most visitors never knew existed.
