History of Java Museum, History museum in Sewon, Indonesia
The History of Java Museum is housed in a building shaped like a gunungan, a traditional puppet theater symbol, located on Parangtritis Road. The collections span from prehistoric periods through major kingdoms, displaying objects that trace cultural development across different eras.
The museum opened in December 2018 and presents artifacts from different periods of Javanese history. The collection includes objects from the Austronesian migration, the Singosari and Majapahit kingdoms, as well as Cirebon and Islamic Mataram periods.
The museum contains four main sections: Theater Studio, Exhibition Hall, 3D Room, and Diorama Room, displaying ancient objects from Austronesian migration periods.
Staff members provide guidance and explain the historical collections to visitors as they move through the museum. Interactive technology with scannable codes helps enhance your understanding of the displays.
The Theater Studio presents films about Java's island formation and early human settlement using modern visualization technology. These presentations bring prehistoric epochs to life in ways that standard displays cannot.
