Kebon Kewan Semarang, Zoo in Semarang, Indonesia
Kebon Kewan Semarang is a zoo located in the Mangkang district with around 9 hectares of grounds and separate areas for different animal groups. The facility displays more than 80 species including Bengal Tigers and Sumatran Elephants, along with additional attractions like a water park and miniature train rides.
The zoo began near Raden Saleh Cultural Park and relocated to Tinjomoyo in 1985 as the city expanded. The facility moved to its current location in Mangkang district in 2006 with a completely redesigned layout.
The zoo functions as a place where visitors interact with animals through daily performances and close encounters. These moments help people develop a connection with wildlife from around the region.
The zoo is situated along Walisongo Road and is accessible by both public transportation and private vehicle. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the grounds are spread across multiple areas requiring considerable walking.
Beyond viewing the animals, visitors can take rides on miniature trains and explore ATV trails throughout the grounds. These additional activities transform the experience into more than just an animal exhibit.
