Kota Lama Semarang, Dutch colonial heritage site in Semarang, Indonesia.
Kota Lama Semarang is an old town district in Central Java, Indonesia, where colonial-era buildings line cobblestone streets. The quarter spreads across several blocks with structures showing brick facades, tall windows and verandas.
The quarter developed in the 18th century when Dutch traders and the East Indies Company established their offices and warehouses here. The Blenduk Church was built in 1753 and served as a place of worship for Protestant settlers.
The Blenduk Church, built in 1753, represents the oldest Protestant church in Central Java, displaying a combination of European and Indonesian design elements.
Travelers reach the quarter by taking local buses from Semarang's main terminals. Guided walking tours run between 8 AM and 5 PM, showing squares, lanes and facades in detail.
Former warehouses now house cafes and galleries but still keep the original wooden beams, doors and ceilings. Walls often expose bare brick and some rooms still have old metal pulleys and cranes.
