Sedudo Waterfall

Sedudo Waterfall plunges 105 meters from a clifftop, dropping from an elevation of 1,438 meters to create a natural pool at the bottom in Ngliman village. The cascade flows down a steep green slope near Mount Wilis in East Java.

The waterfall held spiritual importance as far back as the Majapahit Empire, which ruled East Java from 1293 until around 1500. This long connection reveals how the site remained central to local ceremonies across many generations.

During Sato Sura, the Javanese New Year, twelve young people chosen from the community perform a traditional bathing ceremony beneath the cascade. The waterfall serves as a gathering place where people experience spiritual cleansing and renewal together.

The waterfall sits roughly 30 kilometers south of Nganjuk city and offers basic facilities like restrooms and food stands for visitors. The paths to and around the cascade can become slippery when wet, so good footwear helps you move safely.

Locals gather water from the falls and sprinkle it on family members in a ritual called Parna Prahista for protection and well-being. This practice continues today and reflects the deep belief in the healing power of the cascade.
