Poco Ranaka

The Poco Ranaka volcano rises to an elevation of 2,350 meters, featuring two distinct summits with the southern peak reaching higher than the northern one.

In 1987, a notable geological event occurred when a new lava dome called Anak Ranakah formed at the volcano site, followed by an eruption in 1991.

The indigenous communities of Flores Island maintain traditional beliefs connecting the mountain with their ancestral practices and agricultural patterns throughout generations.

Travelers need to carry sufficient water, food supplies, and proper hiking equipment when climbing Poco Ranaka, as facilities remain minimal along the mountain paths.

The volcano contains multiple layers of hardened lava and tephra, while its dome, Poco Mandasawu, stands as the highest point on Flores Island.
