Monarto Zoo

Monarto Zoo is a large open-range animal park that spans extensive grounds and houses more than 500 animals across many species. The facility holds one of the largest collections of African wildlife outside of Africa and allows visitors to observe the animals in spaces designed to feel more natural.

The park began in 1983 as a specialized breeding facility closed to the public. By 1993, it shifted focus and opened to visitors as an educational destination with guided tours.

The staff members here regularly talk about different animal species and help visitors understand their behaviors and natural habits. These presentations happen throughout the grounds and give people a chance to connect more deeply with the animals they see.

The grounds are very large, so it helps to orient yourself or grab a map when you arrive to plan which areas to visit. Wear comfortable shoes since there is a lot of walking involved, and drink water regularly to stay comfortable throughout your time here.

The park holds some of the largest populations of African lions and giraffes found anywhere outside of Africa. Certain programs let visitors get closer to these animals and even feed them, creating memories that stay with people long after they leave.
