Jounama Dam, Embankment dam in Snowy Mountains, Australia
The Jounama Dam spans across the Tumut River, featuring a rockfill wall that extends 518 meters in length and rises 44 meters high.
The dam, completed in 1968, forms part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a large hydroelectric and irrigation project constructed between 1949 and 1974.
The construction of Jounama Dam led to the relocation of Talbingo town residents, marking a significant change in local community patterns.
A 14.4 megawatt hydroelectric power station, added in 2010, generates sufficient electricity to supply power to 6,800 households in the region.
The dam holds back 43,542,000 cubic meters of water, creating Jounama Pondage reservoir with a surface area of 381 hectares.
