Talbingo Dam, Embankment dam in Snowy Mountains, Australia
The Talbingo Dam stretches 701 meters across the Tumut River, reaching a height of 162 meters with a clay core and rock fill construction.
Completed in 1971 by Thiess Brothers, this structure forms part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, developed between 1949 and 1974 across southeast Australia.
The reservoir supports multiple recreational activities, including trout fishing, power boating, and camping within the surrounding Kosciuszko National Park boundaries.
The dam creates a reservoir holding 920,000 megalitres of water, supplying the Tumut 3 hydroelectric power station that generates 1,800 megawatts of electricity.
The reservoir functions as the bottom storage component for the Snowy 2.0 Pumped Storage Power Station, serving both New South Wales and Victoria.
