Mount Sefton, Mountain summit in Southern Alps, New Zealand.
Mount Sefton rises to 3,151 meters in elevation, featuring the Tuckett Glacier on its southeastern side and the Mueller Glacier in the valley below.
Edward FitzGerald completed the first documented ascent of Mount Sefton in 1894, accompanied by mountaineering guide Matthias Zurbriggen during the Christmas period.
The mountain carries the Māori name Kakīroa and holds significance in indigenous narratives as a guardian of Aoraki, the highest peak in New Zealand.
Climbers need advanced mountaineering experience in snow and ice conditions, proper equipment, and should book guided expeditions several months in advance.
The mountain's south peak exhibits distinctive weather patterns, characterized by sastrugi formations and offering direct views toward Welcome Pass.
