Thirlmere Lakes National Park
Thirlmere Lakes National Park, National park with five freshwater lakes in New South Wales, Australia.
The Thirlmere Lakes system spans across 629 hectares of protected land, featuring five ancient lakes surrounded by eucalyptus forests and sandstone formations.
The area gained national park status in 1972 and became part of the Greater Blue Mountains UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.
The Heritage Pump Station within the park preserves elements of regional railway history, connecting visitors to Picton's steam train heritage.
The park opens daily from 5:30 AM until 8:00 PM during daylight savings time and until 6:00 PM during standard time.
These freshwater lakes, formed 15 million years ago through geological activity, support rare species like the freshwater sponge Radiospongilla sceptroides.
