Sydney International Archery Park, Olympic archery center in Sydney Olympic Park, Australia
Sydney International Archery Park is an outdoor and covered archery facility located within Sydney Olympic Park in New South Wales, Australia. It features multiple shooting ranges set at different distances, designed to accommodate a range of disciplines from recurve to compound bow.
The facility was purpose-built for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics, serving as the venue for all Olympic archery events. At those games, Australian archer Simon Fairweather won his country's first Olympic gold medal in archery.
The park draws archers from across the region, from beginners to seasoned competitors, who gather here for group sessions and tournaments. On weekends, it is common to see multiple groups practicing side by side on the open fields.
The park sits within Sydney Olympic Park, which is easy to reach by train or bus from central Sydney. Visiting on a weekday is generally quieter, as weekends tend to draw club groups and organized events that fill the shooting lanes.
The pavilion at the facility was designed by the architectural firm Stutchbury and Pape and received several architecture awards after its completion. The open timber structure of the pavilion allows wind to pass through freely, which is actually a key variable in archery competition.
