Darlinghurst, Inner-city district in Sydney, Australia.

Darlinghurst is an inner-city suburb of Sydney featuring a mix of Victorian terraced houses and contemporary buildings spread across a compact urban area. The neighborhood contains residential spaces, cafés, shops, and galleries that shape daily life here.

The area was originally called Eastern Hill before being renamed in the early 1800s after the wife of Governor Ralph Darling. Over time it evolved from a working-class neighborhood into a diverse urban center.

The district holds deep meaning for Sydney's LGBTQ+ community, with Oxford Street serving as a gathering place where residents and visitors celebrate and express themselves freely.

Several bus routes connect the suburb to Sydney's center, while Kings Cross and Museum train stations offer additional transport links. The area is highly walkable with main attractions clustered close together.

A former jail from the 1830s was converted into the National Art School while keeping its original sandstone walls intact. Visitors often discover this unexpected blend of prison history and art education while walking through the neighborhood.
