Cox's Road and Early Deviations - Woodford, Appian Way Precinct, Heritage road site in Blue Mountains, Australia.

Cox's Road stretches along a ridge for over one kilometer, featuring original stone walls, cuttings, and culverts from colonial engineering methods.

William Cox and thirty convicts completed the 163-kilometer road from Emu Ford to Bathurst in six months during 1814, following Governor Macquarie's directive.

Two Aboriginal men from Darug and Mulgoa communities assisted the construction team, marking an early collaboration between European settlers and Indigenous people.

The remaining section of Old Bathurst Road in Woodford maintains its original features and serves as a fire trail through the Blue Mountains.

Natural rock formations were integrated into the road's surface as pavement, demonstrating adaptation to the mountainous terrain during colonial construction.
