Australia Square, office and retail complex in Sydney
Australia Square is a building complex in Sydney's central business district featuring a distinctive circular 50-story tower supported by slender columns that occupies only a portion of the city block. The remaining space comprises open plazas with fountains, trees, and seating areas surrounded by restaurants and retail shops at ground level.
The project originated in the early 1960s under architect Harry Seidler's vision, with construction beginning in 1961 and completing in the late 1960s. The tower stood as Sydney's tallest building for nine years and transformed how the city approached high-rise design.
The complex is easily accessible by train, bus, or on foot and sits close to major landmarks like the Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens within a short walk. The site is designed for smooth navigation with clear pathways and good connections between indoor and outdoor areas.
The tower features a revolving restaurant and observation deck on its upper levels offering sweeping views of the city and harbor. These vantage points are among the most distinctive features visitors often seek out to experience Sydney's skyline from above.
