West Burleigh Store

The West Burleigh Store is a two-story timber building with weatherboard walls and large shop windows located along Tallebudgera Creek Road. It was designed as both a retail space and a family home, with the upper level serving office functions while the ground floor operated as the main trading area.

The building was constructed in 1935 during Queensland's south coast expansion and served as both a store and residence for its owner Alf Fletcher. It played an important role in the area's early commercial growth and reflects the period when country stores were vital community gathering points.

The store functioned as a central meeting point where farmers cashed paychecks, residents purchased supplies, and children received treats during school celebrations.

The store is located along Tallebudgera Creek Road in a walkable part of Burleigh Heads near the town center. As it remains an active retail business, visitors should plan their visit during normal trading hours and be respectful of any restricted access areas.

The interior features distinctive two-tone timber flooring and a polished wooden staircase connecting to the upper-level offices. These crafted details reveal the level of attention to design and material quality that was typical of retail buildings from this era.
