Colemans Bridge, Heritage timber bridge in Lismore, Australia
Colemans Bridge is a timber bridge in Lismore that crosses Leycester Creek through two truss spans. The structure carries traffic on Union Street with protected pathways for pedestrians on both sides.
The bridge was built in 1907 and named after a state representative of the early twentieth century. Its design applied contemporary engineering techniques that were being adopted in Australian infrastructure at that time.
This structure represents an early example of American engineering principles adopted in Australian bridge construction during the early twentieth century.
Access is via Union Street where both vehicles and pedestrians use the bridge. The walkways are clearly defined and accommodate regular traffic in both directions.
Steel braces fixed to the top chord of the timber truss strengthen the outer pedestrian barriers, combining metal and wooden structural elements.
