Wategos Beach, Beach cove in Byron Bay, Australia
The 300-meter sandy beach sits between steep cliffs, featuring clear waters and gentle waves that roll onto a wide sandbar near Cape Byron.
The beach bears the name of Murray Watego, who leased land above the shore in 1933 to cultivate bananas and vegetables for Sydney markets.
The surrounding area contains Aboriginal archaeological materials, including The Pass midden, which remains under active conservation management since its 1980 discovery.
Visitors have access to beachside barbecues, picnic tables, showers, and paid parking facilities operating daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The beach connects directly to Cape Byron Lighthouse via steep steps, offering access to Australia's most easterly point and frequent dolphin sightings.
