Glass House Mountains, Mountain range administrative division in Sunshine Coast Regional, Australia.

Glass House Mountains is a mountain range in the Sunshine Coast region featuring eleven principal volcanic peaks rising directly from the coastal plains. The landscape offers striking geological formations with isolated summits scattered across the area.

Lieutenant James Cook named these mountains in 1770, comparing them to industrial furnaces from his experience in Yorkshire, England. This naming marked the first European encounter and documented discovery of the formation.

The mountains hold deep meaning for the Gubbi Gubbi and Jinibara peoples, with Mount Beerwah maintaining particular traditional importance. This place continues to shape the identity of communities throughout the region.

Sunshine Coast Airport is located about 45 kilometers away and Brisbane Airport about 72 kilometers away, both offering car rental services. The flat surrounding terrain provides good access to the different peaks and viewpoints.

Each mountain in the range formed through separate volcanic activity about 26 million years ago, creating solidified rock intrusions. These geologically independent peaks offer a rare example of multiple volcanic intrusions standing close together.
