Mowbraytown Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian church building in East Brisbane, Australia

Mowbraytown Presbyterian Church is a wooden church building in East Brisbane featuring steeply pitched gable roofs and twin gable transepts. The structure displays traditional ecclesiastical design with timber buttresses and leadlight windows.

The church was built in 1916 on land donated by Williamina Mowbray, widow of Reverend Thomas Mowbray. Presbyterian presence in Queensland traces back to 1851 when the reverend established the region's first church of this faith.

The building contains a pipe organ from 1902 and wooden pews that reflect Presbyterian worship practices. These elements show how the congregation gathered and observed their faith traditions together.

The building is located at 22-28 Mowbray Terrace and now serves as commercial office space. Visitors should note that it functions as an active workplace, so exterior viewing is the main way to appreciate its heritage details.

The church bell was originally cast in Scotland and specially transported to this location. This detail connects the building directly to its Presbyterian roots in Britain.
