Pioneer Inn, Historic hotel in Lahaina, United States
The Pioneer Inn was a historic hotel at the center of Lahaina featuring plantation-era architecture with distinctive white walls and green trim. The 34-room building stood directly near the harbor and operated continuously for more than a century.
The hotel was founded in 1901 and remained the first continuously operated hotel on Maui for over 120 years. It played an important role in Lahaina's development as a harbor town and travel destination.
The white walls and green trim made this hotel instantly recognizable in Lahaina's harbor district, serving as a visual landmark for locals and visitors alike. Over more than a century, the building's consistent appearance helped define the character of the historic waterfront area.
The waterfront location in Lahaina provided easy access to beaches, shops, and restaurants within walking distance. Ferry services to other islands were nearby, making it a convenient base for exploring the region.
The building maintained its original structure and appearance for over 122 years until the August 2023 wildfires destroyed it. This event marked the end of one of the island's longest continuously operating institutions.
