Mount Katmai, Stratovolcano in Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska.

Mount Katmai rises 2047 meters above sea level, featuring a central lake-filled caldera measuring three kilometers wide and five kilometers across.

The 1912 eruption lasted 60 hours, expelled 28 cubic kilometers of material, and formed the current caldera structure visible at Mount Katmai.

The Alaska Peninsula region around Mount Katmai maintains connections to indigenous communities who developed survival methods in this volcanic environment.

Access to Mount Katmai requires transportation by floatplane or boat, as no roads connect to this remote location within Katmai National Park.
