Cooper Landing Post Office, United States historic place

The Cooper Landing Post Office, formerly Jack Lean's Store, is a chalet-style log cabin built around 1910–20 and enlarged in the 1920s and 1930s, probably gaining its facade only in the 1930s. The facade is adorned with caribou and moose antlers. The building was moved a short distance west, together with the Ridderford School, and is now part of the Cooper Landing Historical Museum.

Cooper Landing grew after prospector Joseph Cooper found gold in the 1880s where the Kenai River meets Kenai Lake. The building was put up around 1910–20 as a simple log cabin, enlarged in the 1920s and 1930s, and probably only gained its chalet-style facade in the 1930s. It served as Jack Lean's Store before becoming the post office, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The building displays hunting trophies like caribou and moose antlers on its facade, reflecting how early residents lived and supported themselves. These symbols of hunting tradition remain part of the community's daily heritage and show the central role that hunting and craftsmanship held in local life.

The building sits near the Sterling Highway and is easily accessible by car or foot, as it forms part of a museum displaying local history exhibits and artifacts.
