Manzanillo, Pacific port city in Colima, Mexico.
Manzanillo sits on the Mexican Pacific coast in Colima and forms a natural harbor from two connected bays. The layout follows the shoreline with a port district, beaches, and residential areas spreading from the center toward the outer bays.
The Spanish crown founded the settlement on July 24, 1527, as a trading post between Asia and the Americas. During the 20th century, the role shifted from a pure trading harbor to a major container port for Pacific cargo movement.
The name Manzanillo comes from the Spanish word for the manchineel tree, which once grew along the coast. Fishermen leave the harbor with their boats each morning, and vendors sell the catch directly at the docks in the evening.
Travelers reach the city through Playa de Oro airport, which offers connections to national and international destinations. Most hotels and beaches line the coastal road linking the center with the northern and southern bays.
Las Hadas resort served as the main filming location for the 1979 movie '10' with Dudley Moore and Bo Derek. Scenes shot around its Moorish-style white buildings introduced many viewers to this part of the Pacific coast.
