Mount Disappointment

Mount Disappointment is a summit in the San Gabriel Mountains standing at about 3,000 feet (900 meters). The terrain features dense forest cover, rocky passages, and several trails that wind through varying elevations with both shaded and open sections.

The name comes from 19th century California exploration when surveyors judged the summit as disappointing because the view did not match their expectations. This name has remained in use ever since.

The mountain trails form an integral part of California's outdoor recreation network, connecting hikers to various paths throughout the San Gabriel range.

Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water since the trails feature numerous elevation changes and exposed sections. Early morning is the best time to hike when temperatures are cooler and visibility is clearer.
