Jumbo Rocks Campground

Jumbo Rocks is a campground in Joshua Tree National Park, located among enormous granite boulders in the Mojave Desert with about 120 campsites. The massive rock formations rise between the camping areas and dominate the entire setting.

These massive rocks formed millions of years ago when magma cooled beneath the surface and was gradually exposed by erosion. This geological process continues to shape the desert landscape today.

This location holds meaning for the Serrano and Chemehuevi peoples who lived in this desert for centuries. Today, visitors can learn about their connection to the land through ranger talks and interpretive displays.

The site sits at high elevation in the desert, so bring plenty of water and sun protection since drinking water is not available on site. Expect large temperature swings between day and night, and pack layers accordingly.

Generators can only be used during specific daytime windows to preserve the quiet of the desert. This unusual rule reflects how the campground prioritizes protecting the natural setting.
