White Tank Campground

White Tank Campground is a camping area in Joshua Tree National Park with 15 campsites nestled among massive granite boulders. The rock formations provide natural windbreaks and create a rugged setting for visitors to explore the surrounding terrain.

Park planners chose this location in the 1930s because of the geological importance of the surrounding rock formations. The site became established as a camping destination that allowed visitors to experience the desert's natural geology firsthand.

Visitors gather at designated spots near the campground to photograph night skies and participate in astronomy programs throughout the year.

The campground has no running water, so visitors need to bring all the supplies they will need for their stay. Plan ahead since the nearest facilities are quite far away and supplies are limited on-site.

Natural granite arch formations near the campground invite short walks through the landscape. Interpretive signs explain the geological features of these rock structures, turning them into an open-air learning opportunity.
