Parque Nacional Laguna Lachuá

The park encompasses a circular turquoise lake reaching 220 meters deep, surrounded by dense subtropical forest with interpretative hiking trails.

The national park gained protection status in 1996, transforming from a conflict-affected region to a natural reserve spanning 145 square kilometers.

The name Lachuá originates from Kekchí language, referring to the natural sulfur presence that creates a distinct water scent in the lake.

Visitors need to bring food supplies and camping equipment, as the park maintains basic facilities with one hotel and limited shower access.

The calcite-rich waters of the lake coat submerged tree branches with white mineral deposits, creating natural limestone formations.
