Tinigua National Natural Park

Tinigua National Natural Park is a large protected area in Colombia positioned between two mountain ranges, featuring dense rainforest and multiple river systems. The landscape connects different ecosystems that support diverse wildlife.

The park was created in 1989 to protect four major river basins and their watersheds. Its establishment formed a protected corridor connecting various natural areas across Colombia.

Indigenous groups such as the Tinigua and Guayabero left petroglyphs at sacred sites that visitors can still observe today. These markings reveal how indigenous communities connected with the land for centuries.

Reaching this protected area requires planning, as entry is by road from Villavicencio or by flying to La Macarena followed by boat travel. Visitors should prepare for limited facilities and tropical conditions.

This territory functions as a meeting point between three major ecosystems: the Andes, the Orinoco, and the Amazon. This rare arrangement allows visitors to encounter different habitats and their characteristic wildlife in a single location.
