Chiribiquete National Park

The national park contains a network of rivers, dense tropical forests, and flat-topped mountains emerging from the Amazon landscape across 43,000 square kilometers.

The Colombian government established Chiribiquete National Park in 1989, expanding it twice in 2013 and 2018 to become the largest tropical rainforest national park worldwide.

The park walls display 75,000 petroglyphs and pictographs in 60 rock shelters, depicting the traditions of indigenous communities spanning thousands of years.

Accessing the park requires special permits from Colombian authorities and transportation by air or river due to its remote location in the Amazon rainforest.

Scientists have documented 1,801 plant species, 410 bird species, and the endemic Chiribiquete emerald hummingbird within the park boundaries.
