Chiribiquete National Park

Chiribiquete National Park is a large rainforest area spanning across Caquetá and Guaviare departments in the Amazon. The landscape features river systems, dense tropical forests, and distinctive flat-topped mountains that rise from the surrounding terrain.

The Colombian government established the park in 1989 to protect the rainforest. It has been expanded twice since then, making it one of the largest tropical forest reserves in the world.

Rock paintings and engravings cover the shelter walls and show how indigenous peoples have lived here for thousands of years and left records of their traditions. These artworks reveal the customs and spiritual beliefs of communities that shaped this landscape long before modern times.

This location is very remote and accessible only by air or river transport. Visitors must obtain special permits from Colombian authorities before planning a trip and should check current requirements in advance.

The park is home to the Chiribiquete emerald hummingbird, a bird species found nowhere else. Over 1,800 plant species and hundreds of bird species thrive in this remote forest area.
