Viceroy's House

Viceroy's House is a colonial museum in Cartago displaying traditional Andalusian architecture with thick quarry stone walls and distinctive coffered ceilings. The building showcases impressive craftsmanship from its era, with substantial clay brick structures that have remained standing without foundations over the centuries.

Construction began in the late 18th century when Sebastián de Marisancena, a Spanish Creole, received a license from the Viceroy to populate his inherited lands. This estate became a center of Spanish colonial administration in the region and shaped political life in Cartago for generations.

The building houses the Pedro Morales Pino Music Conservatory and the Luis Alfonso Delgado History Center, where locals and visitors encounter materials spanning different periods of the city. These spaces serve as gathering points that reflect how the community preserves its past.
