Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Pobreza

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Poverty stands on the western side of Plaza de Bolivar, featuring a central nave with two lateral sections and multiple chapels.

The initial construction started in 1834, endured earthquakes in 1906 and 1999, requiring substantial rebuilding efforts that revealed archaeological remnants of Cartago Viejo.

The cathedral exhibits medieval Romanesque elements, Byzantine-style exposed brick walls, and houses 1932 canvas paintings by artist José Moreno depicting religious scenes.

Located between streets 20 and 21 near Carrera 7, the cathedral provides limited wheelchair access and welcomes visitors interested in religious architecture.

The dome structure incorporates 13,000 pieces of curly cumin wood, demonstrating traditional Colombian construction methods combined with European architectural influences.
