Catedral de Ibagué, Catholic cathedral in central Ibagué, Colombia.
Catedral de Ibagué stands on the eastern side of Bolivar Square, displaying a pink and white facade with a 65-meter bell tower. The building combines architectural elements and houses artistic works and religious artifacts from various periods inside.
Construction began in the late 1800s at the site of a chapel from 1551 and was completed in 1931. The new building replaced an earlier structure and marked the city's growing religious importance during that development period.
The name refers to the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the diocese, whose representation by Murillo has been venerated inside since 1915. The French-made bells shape the city's soundscape and call the faithful to services.
The building is open daily for mass services with multiple schedules throughout the week and additional parish offerings. Visitors should note that the church functions as an active community space and opening times follow the worship schedule.
A Swiss clock was donated by the Antioquia community in 1929 and has regulated the city's rhythm since installation. This timepiece arrived when such gifts were rare and meaningful gestures from one region to another.
