Maceo is a municipality in the Magdalena Medio region of Antioquia Department, situated at 915 meters in elevation. The surrounding landscape consists of mountains and farming areas where cacao, coffee, sugar cane, and cassava are cultivated, alongside cattle raising and mining operations.
The settlement began in 1895 when colonists led by Jacoba Cadavid and Marco Cardona established their residence in the area. It gained municipality status in 1942.
The townspeople gather in July for celebrations honoring the Virgin of Carmen and in September for Saint Peter Claver festivities, marking key moments in the community's social calendar. These events bring residents together around shared religious traditions and local customs.
