Santurbán-Salazar de las Palmas Regional Park

The Santurbán-Salazar Regional Natural Park extends across 19,088 hectares, featuring high Andean forests and multiple natural lagoons at elevations between 1,160 and 3,925 meters.

The park received its protected status designation in December 2013 through CORPONOR, establishing conservation measures for the mountain ecosystems and water resources in Norte de Santander.

The area contains 54 properties, with 30 under public ownership representing 78% of the total land, supporting local communities through water provision and environmental services.

Access to the park requires guidance through six gateway municipalities: Tona, Vetas, California, Suratá, Matanza, and Charta, with local accommodations available in nearby farms.

The park supplies water to 48 Colombian municipalities serving 2.3 million people and maintains essential moss species like Sphagnum magellanicum for water regulation.
