Santander Park, Urban park in Cúcuta, Colombia.
Santander Park spans approximately ten thousand square meters in downtown Cúcuta, featuring paved walkways, grassy lawns, mature trees providing shade, and various benches for visitors to rest and socialize.
The park was established in March 1896 when Mayor Carlos García Vera purchased the land for 2,500 gold coins and initiated its beautification through tree planting to provide shade and cooling for the urban environment.
The park serves as a traditional gathering place for community events, cultural festivals, and civic celebrations, hosting Saturday markets where Venezuelan merchants historically sold agricultural products like onions, cabbages, and pineapples.
Located between avenues 5 and 6 with streets 10 and 11, the park operates daily from early morning until late evening with security patrols ensuring visitor safety and maintaining order throughout the premises.
The park features a bronze sculpture of General Santander created by German sculptor Carl Borner, inaugurated on August 5, 1890, depicting the independence leader in his mature years as a symbol of Colombian history.
