Father Francisco Martínez de Espinoza initiated the construction of the first temple dedicated to the Virgin of Táriba on August 19, 1690.
The basilica houses a revered Marian image that received its Pontifical decree of coronation in 1959 and underwent the coronation ceremony in 1967.
Visitors can access the basilica through organized tours that provide information about its historical significance and religious importance within the Táchira region.
The structure underwent multiple reconstructions due to earthquakes, with significant renovations in the 1960s funded by contributions from Martín Marciales Moncada.
