Los Quetzales National Park

Los Quetzales National Park is a protected area in the highlands that spans mountainous terrain covered in dense cloud forest. The park encompasses multiple elevation zones and harbors both tropical and cooler forest ecosystems.

The protected area became a national park in the early 2000s and safeguards a vital section of the Savegre River basin. Its establishment aimed to preserve this forest region and its diverse wildlife for future generations.

The park takes its name from the Resplendent Quetzal, a bird that inhabits the dense forest and holds special meaning for local communities. Spotting these birds in the canopy is often a memorable moment for visitors.

The trails vary in length and accessibility depending on fitness level, with some passing through dense vegetation and others offering more open views. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear, rain gear, and binoculars for bird watching.
