La Amistad International Park

The park spans 400,000 hectares across the Talamanca mountain range, featuring dense tropical forests, cloud forests, and diverse mountain ecosystems.

The governments of Panama and Costa Rica established this protected natural area in 1988, receiving UNESCO World Heritage status two years later.

Indigenous communities of Bribri and Cabécar maintain their traditional lifestyle within the park boundaries, preserving ancient customs and knowledge.

Access to the park is through Las Nubes in Chiriqui province, with ranger stations providing trail maps and guidance for visitors.

The reserve contains seven of the twelve life zones required to sustain principal land ecosystems, including habitats for jaguars and resplendent quetzals.
