Established in 1765, this religious structure became the first basilica constructed in South America and maintains its original architectural elements.
The cathedral mausoleum preserves the remains of Rodrigo Galvan de Bastidas, the Spanish conquistador who founded Santa Marta in 1525.
Religious services occur Monday through Saturday from noon until 6 PM, while Sunday masses take place between 7 AM and 10 AM.
The cathedral belongs to the Diocese of Santa Marta, which oversees a Catholic population of 680,000 people across multiple Colombian municipalities.
