Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel

The iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel is a neoclassical parish church featuring stone walls and pink quarry stone details situated within Uriangato's Independence Garden. A three-level bell tower rises prominently above the structure and can be seen from throughout the city.

Construction lasted from 1897 to 1923 under the direction of Fray Ubertino del Socorro Herrera with support from local residents. This extended building period reflected the community's commitment to creating a significant religious center for the city.

Inside, the church displays a Latin cross layout with side altars holding images of the Sacred Heart and the Virgin of Carmen adorned with gold leaf work. These decorative elements create a warm and ornate atmosphere that draws the eye throughout the interior.

The church is easily accessible from the Independence Garden and welcomes visitors during religious service hours. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and understand that this remains an active place of worship when entering.

The bell tower houses a three-sided clock of German origin that arrived in 1919 after a remarkable journey involving rail and pack animals. This unusual technical feature speaks to international connections during the early decades of the 20th century.
