Chapultepec Castle, Castle and history museum in Chapultepec Park, Mexico

The stone fortress stands on Chapultepec Hill at 2,325 meters above sea level, featuring neoclassical and Gothic Revival architectural elements throughout its structure.

The castle served as the residence of Emperor Maximilian I in 1864 before becoming a presidential palace and later transforming into the National Museum of History.

The museum displays extensive collections that document Mexican history from pre-colonial periods through independence, revolution, and modern times within its decorated halls.

The National Museum of History opens Tuesday through Sunday, with guided tours available in multiple languages and educational programs for school groups.

This castle holds the distinction of being one of only two royal palaces in North America that monarchs actually inhabited.
