Los Mármoles National Park extends across 231.5 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, reaching elevations from 600 to 3,000 meters at Cerro Cangando peak.

President Lázaro Cárdenas established this protected natural area in 1936, marking an early step in Mexico's conservation efforts for mountain ecosystems.

The park's location within the Sierra Madre Oriental contains ancient paths that indigenous communities used for trade and communication between regions.

The park experiences temperate subhumid climate with summer rains, requiring visitors to bring appropriate gear and check weather conditions before exploring.

The protected area hosts 18 different native oak species and 11 bat species, including the common vampire bat and Aztec fruit-eating bat.
