The Cave of Swallows features an elliptical entrance measuring 49 by 62 meters wide, leading to a chamber of 303 by 135 meters.
T.R. Evans, Charles Borland, and Randy Sterns conducted the first documented exploration of the cave on December 27, 1966.
The Huaxtèques people recognized and maintained knowledge of this natural formation long before its scientific documentation.
Visitors require professional guides and specialized equipment to safely explore the cave, which includes a vertical descent of 333 meters.
Black swifts and swallows perform a daily ritual, diving into the cave at dusk and emerging in spiraling formations at dawn.
