Santuario del Señor de Mapethé, Colonial church in Cardonal, Mexico.
The Sanctuary contains five bells weighing nearly a ton each and displays three elevated platforms on its exterior architectural structure.
The sanctuary's origins trace back to 1545 when a valuable crucifix from Spain prompted the construction of the first chapel.
Every fifth Friday of Lent, Otomi pilgrims travel to the sanctuary, receiving flower crowns from their godparents during traditional ceremonies.
Visitors can reach the sanctuary from Mexico City by following the highway to Ixmiquilpan or taking public buses to Ixmiquilpan.
Local blacksmiths participate in restoration work by manufacturing specific metal pieces required for the maintenance of church structures.
