Edward James Surrealist Garden, Surrealist garden in Xilitla, Mexico.

The garden contains concrete structures, pools, and waterfalls spread across 80 acres of rainforest in the Sierra Gorda mountains at 2,000 feet elevation.

Edward James purchased a coffee plantation in 1947 and started building this sculptural garden after a frost destroyed his orchid collection in 1962.

The garden represents a physical manifestation of surrealist art principles, with structures that merge architectural forms with natural elements like orchids and local flora.

Visitors can reach the garden through a seven-hour drive north of Mexico City, with guided tours available to explore the concrete structures and natural pools.

The site features 40 concrete structures across nine hectares, including spiraling staircases that connect at 20 meters height and buildings with names defying conventional logic.
