San Andrés Cholula Municipality

San Andrés Cholula is a municipality in Puebla that spreads across residential zones, commercial areas, and farmland within the greater Puebla metropolitan region. It is home to the Universidad de las Américas Puebla and other schools that serve roughly 154,000 people.

This area grew from the ancient city of Cholula in pre-Hispanic times and was later divided into two administrative sections. The division reflects how colonial rule reorganized the original structure of the indigenous settlement.

The territory contains eight traditional neighborhoods, each with a name that joins a patron saint with an indigenous word from pre-colonial times. These names show how Spanish and local traditions mixed together and still shape how people here see their community.
