Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is a church built atop the Great Pyramid of Cholula. The structure features carved stone walls and gilded decorative panels that catch the light throughout the day.

Spanish colonists built this church between 1574 and 1575 on top of an older religious site. The building was formally consecrated in 1629, decades after construction began.

The church was built atop the ruins of an indigenous temple, blending Christian worship with local traditions. Visitors can observe how the space brings together two religious worlds in a single place of devotion.

The church is best reached on foot, as it sits atop the pyramid. Wear comfortable shoes for the steep climb to reach the building.

Tunnels run beneath the church through the ancient pyramid, connecting different levels of the structure. These passages allow visitors to see how the pyramid was built in layers over time.
