Puebla sinkhole, Natural sinkhole in Zacatepec, Mexico
The circular water-filled cavity measures over 400 feet across and reaches depths of 150 feet, displaying strong underground water currents.
The geological formation emerged in May 2021 on farmland, leading to investigations by scientists who determined it formed through natural limestone erosion processes.
Local residents established small food stands and observation points near the sinkhole, turning the geological formation into a weekend destination for visitors.
The Mexican government maintains protective barriers around the site, requiring people to maintain a minimum distance of 2000 feet for safety reasons.
Two dogs fell into the sinkhole and survived on a ledge for four days before being rescued through a complex operation using ropes and pulleys.
