El Potosí National Park, National park in San Luis Potosí, Mexico
El Potosí National Park is a protected mountain area in San Luis Potosí with elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,480 meters (4,921 to 8,136 feet). The terrain features dense forests of pines and oak trees spread across rolling and steep hillsides.
The park was established in 1936 by President Lázaro Cárdenas as a protected area under international conservation standards. This designation was part of broader efforts to preserve Mexico's natural resources for future generations.
The park takes its name from Potosí Peak and embodies the natural identity of the Sierra Madre Oriental region. The pine-oak forests shape how locals and visitors experience these mountains as a defining landscape feature.
Visitors can reach the park via federal highway 57 from San Luis Potosí city and should bring both warm and cold clothing since temperatures fluctuate throughout the year. The driest months offer easier trail conditions for hiking and exploration.
The area contains an impressive variety of wild plant species, including several rare specimens found nowhere else in the region. This botanical richness makes the park a special destination for nature observers and plant enthusiasts.
